The purpose of this Locatory is to locate all the railway stations around Britain currently used for a commercial purpose. Sixty years ago there were approximately 4,300 stations operating on the mainline. Today there are just over 2,500 stations on the mainline. Currently we have accurately located the mainline stations and are now working through several hundred more on preserved Heritage railways around Britain.
However, we are aware that many more former stations have been repurposed and are being used for various types of accommodation and other commercial purposes. We therefore welcome information on any former British Rail station which is being used for a commerical purpose.
